Go MTB is a mountain bike personal proficiency award scheme which aims to provide structured support to help individuals develop the skills required to make independent journeys into the outdoors.
This new award scheme for mountain biking has been developed in partnership with key stakeholders including MBLA, CTC and Scottish Cycling, and was drafted by a panel of experts in the mountain biking sector. Chris Ball (of Dirt School and MBR fame) helped develop the resource to provide a comprehensive introduction to off-road riding.
The awards cover 4 themes - riding skills, first aid, being independent and self supporting, and sharing the outdoors. There are 5 levels of proficiency across these 4 areas, and candidates can mix and match the themes and levels according to their interest.
Go MTB gives leaders a flexible framework for running high quality and progressive mountain bike sessions, and the means to chart and reward progress. It is backed up by well designed resources including an Instructor Manual, provided as part of the Instructor orientation course. This manual explains the skills that are delivered at each of the 5 levels of the award, and gives key coaching points on how to deliver them.

Go MTB is approved by the MBLA, CTC and MIAS, and if you are a qualified leader with any of these schemes you have the chance to run training sessions and issue nationally recognised certificates to your groups.
To become Go MTB instructors, suitably qualified MTB leaders need to attend a 1-day orientation course, after which they can deliver Go MTB sessions, issue log books to record progress, and issue free certificates to students as they work their way through the scheme. The orientation award is issued at two levels:- level 3 or level 5, dependent upon personal riding skills and the level of the candidates existing leadership qualification. The level will be determined during the orientation day.

We will be running Go MTB instructor orientation courses throughout the year. A list of planned dates is available on the
Snowbikers course calendar page.
Given suitable facilities, it may be possible to run courses at your venue, although there will be extra charges for our travelling expenses.
Give us a call and we can talk you through the costings.
